The months from autumn to spring can stretch interminably, but with the acquisition and use of this recipe book, cooking, entertaining, and eating brighten up this period considerably. Five women have experimented with many recipes and compiled them into ten chapters of thematic menus. Each chapter begins with a colour photo, not necessarily of food, but of winter scenes typical of the area. Of interest also, is the explanatory page of customs concerned with each chapter's menus. The traditional winter holidays of Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's, and Easter receive special attention, while occasions with unique titles such as "Friday Night Winter Picnic," "First Mixed Party," and "Mommy, I Don't Feel So Good" show the range of coverage.

The recipes are set in easily read type with ingredients first, followed by step-by-step instructions. Most appealing is their simplicity, resulting in elegant dishes for successful meals. An index with special headings such as "Beverages," "Salads" etc., makes for easy reference, while the last chapter, entitled "Basics" would give even the novice cook confidence in the kitchen.

Highly recommended to add pizzazz to your winter meals. Ideal for senior foods classes.
