Volume 11 Number 1. 1983 January. Elaine Dickson does both the tape and the teacher's guide. From the bibliography included in the guide, I feel that it is both factual and up to date. Side 1 of the tape deals with pythons in general and discusses them in clear, non-scientific terms. Dickson talks about pythons, their special features, their food, their enemies, their methods of attack, and other interesting facts. She asks open-ended questions designed to make the students think beyond the information she is giving them. Side 2 covers legends, myths, and religious practices that have evolved in certain parts of the world because of our fascination with snakes. Musical backgrounds help create a suitable mood for these tales. Although the tape is full of facts about its subject, providing information is not the only purpose.
