A compilation of forty-five profiles of authors and illustrators reprinted or revised from In Review 1975-1981. Added to the forty-four in the first edition of Profiles (1975) the total is now eighty-nine. Each is about three pages, accompanied by an attractive photograph and a bibliography of the children's books written or illustrated. Written by a wide variety of authors, many of whom have personal contact with the author or illustrator, each profile is an outline biography and a brief appraisal of the person's work for children. Unlike author encyclopedia, Profiles 2 gives accurate information and a feeling of personal acquaintance with these live (and lively) Canadians. Some have given personal statements of their purposes and hopes. The writing is, naturally, laudatory, but through it comes an enthusiasm for writing, an enthusiasm for children, a celebration of Canada.

Although not quite as good as an actual author visit from one of these talented people, Profiles 2 should be in every school library. It is invaluable for teachers, librarians, parents, anyone helping to make Canadian books come alive for Canadian children.
