The text is printed in two columns in black, with special notes, definitions, and reminders in blue. This contrast will help both student and teacher focus on new or review material. The authors made extensive use of charts and diagrams to present material.

Story problems contain a minimum of words, and the language used is well suited to the grade 8 level.

The mathematical emphasis is on application rather than on drill, and the problems presented are realistic and Canadian in nature. Problems apply to a variety of real-world situations; they come from such areas as sports, design, history, and shopping.

The chapters contain special interest sections in the form of "Bonus" problems and "Puzzlers" and "Focus" sections that could be used for enrichment, motivation, or enjoyment. Each chapter ends with a "Recap" of the chapter and a "Putting It All Together" that contains questions reviewing all previous chapters. The only answers in the student text are the answers to "Recap."

Calculator exercises are included, but problems are such so that they can be done without their use, if the teacher prefers. Decimals and integers are reviewed and expanded before work with fractions is reviewed.

If the text is not being used as a primary text, it would make an excellent resource book for teachers and students.
