This lovely cookbook inspired this reviewer to hasten to the kitchen and test the recipes. Toffee bars, the easiest recipe in the book, drew rave comments from the taste panel at the office who commented, "We want more." Susan Mendel-son's book covers "Breakfasts and Brunches," "Lunches," "Salads," "Treats Galore," (cookies) and "Fantasy, Festivals and Fun" (holiday cooking). The recipes are clearly set out. Ingredients are given in metric and imperial measurements. Utensils required are listed, and procedures are given step-by-step. Ingredients include many natural foods but make use of sensible time-saving products.

Zany illustrations by Carol Sedgewick make the book extremely attractive-a one-eyed pirate serves the tuna casserole, a witch on a broomstick carries the Hallowe'en pumpkin flan.

This book is written for children, but the recipes are suitable for anyone who enjoys eating. Beginners in the kitchen of any age would gain confidence by using it. Younger children might need help from an adult until they become familiar with cooking terms and procedures. This book is a must for school libraries and family studies rooms.
