The title about sums it up: this is a book that heaps praise on the most outstanding player in Canadian hockey today, Wayne Gretzky.

With the aid of lots of black-and-white pictures, Zola, a Vancouver writer and teacher, traces Gretzky's career from its beginnings in Brantford, Ontario, through stops with the Toronto Young Nationals,' Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, and Indianapolis Racers, to his current team, the Edmonton Oilers, up to the end of the 1981-82 regular season. His many awards, honours, and accomplishments are duly recorded but notice is also made of his equally impressive personal qualities, shown, for example, in the many hours he devotes to charity work. There is information on how he has developed his hockey and personal skills and the advantages and disadvantages of hockey stardom.

There is just one quibble: Gretzky scored his fiftieth goal of the 1981-82 season on December 30, 1981, not 1982. The book's adulatory tone cannot really be criticized since its subject is usually worthy of any praise that comes his way. And, of course, the book will prove to be immensely popular.
